I am just the laziest artist ever. I've taken some time off the tablet. I reached the height of frustration while attempting to color the Raul piece, and I knew it was just time to take a step back.

Going back to pencil and paper after an extended time doing digital work is always a humbling experience. Working in the computer is just...easier. If I need to erase a line, I don't have to worry if I chose to work in ink or in pencil, or ruining the integrity of the paper or whatever other medium. I just Ctrl+Z that shit and keep it moving.

But there is a comfort in the sound and the smell of graphite, a pencil fresh from the sharpener, still warmed by the action of shaving a fine point, which will be dulled about five lines later. The careful selection of a colored pencil, a marker, a shade of gray, or ink, or pastel, or a paint. There is some reward in watching this rainbow build up on your arms, sometimes your face. And being left handed, I have the distinct pleasure of collecting a grey smudge, from my pinky finger up to my elbow, every time I use a pencil.

Sunday or Monday night, I will be putting some scans up of my pencil works.

As far as scraps go, I have a lot of little stolen idle moments during my work day, stolen between loading documents, where I can jot down a quick doodle. This entire week has been devoted to refining two characters who have been in concept for far too long. I plan on doing a bulk dump of desk art once a week, if for no other reason than to show you what has been keeping me sane while I've been going through the monotony of working as a data entry operator.
